The dream of someday buying a house seems even further out of reach as inflation continues to rise. Pushing off that home purchase. Cancelling the monthly gym membership.</p><p>These are just some of the ways American consumers are trying to save money as they navigate increased everyday prices that have forced households to become more conscious about their purchasing decisions. That means searching for more deals, cutting back on some essentials or changing shopping habits altogether.</p></div><div><p>While inflation rates have leveled off from their 2022 peak,&nbsp;high costs&nbsp;are still affecting the day-to-day lives of most people, according to California State University, Northridge marketing professor Mariam Beruchashvili. Chandra Subramaniam, dean of Nazarian College, announced that the college&rsquo;s Center for Real Estate would now be known as the Bookstein Real Estate Center.&nbsp;</p><p>The event, held at the Orchard Conference Center, brought together students, faculty, alumni and community leaders. Attendees heard from distinguished guests, including Harvey and Harriet Bookstein, Âé¶čAV President Erika Beck and Dean Subramaniam, to learn more about the center&rsquo;s mission to educate future generations of real estate professionals, advance the profession and real estate law, and serve as a resource.</p><p>&ldquo;Harvey and Harriet Bookstein have once again shown their unwavering support of Nazarian College with their generous contribution to our real estate program,&rdquo; said Dean Subramaniam. &ldquo;Their long-time philanthropic and volunteer support has benefited countless students and served as an inspiration for many over the years. That&rsquo;s why we are thrilled that Nazarian College&rsquo;s Center for Real Estate will now be known as the Bookstein Real Estate Center in recognition of their generous philanthropy and good citizenship.&rdquo;</p><p>Harvey Bookstein said he and his wife were honored to have the center named after them.</p><p>&ldquo;Harriet and I are pleased to support Nazarian College and its continuing efforts to advance real estate knowledge and educate future generations of real estate leaders and professionals through timely research, education programs and community involvement,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;We feel so fortunate that we are able to help Nazarian College build a thriving real estate program that will benefit its students as well as the communities in which they will ultimately work."</p><p><span>As part of the evening&rsquo;s event, Mr. Bookstein moderated a panel discussion on issues facing today&rsquo;s real estate market. Three specialists&mdash;Keltie Cole, division president of KB Home Los Angeles/Ventura; Paul Jennings, principal of OCS Energy and expert in commercial real estate; and Cleo McDougald, senior vice president, CRE Credit Risk, for IDB&mdash;discussed the impact of interest rates on residential and commercial properties, new home construction, including ADUs, and housing supply issues, among other topics.</span></p><p>Harvey Bookstein, a certified public accountant who graduated from Âé¶čAV in 1970 with a bachelor&rsquo;s degree in business administration, has nearly 50 years of public accounting experience and specializes in providing tax, accounting and business consulting services to clients in the real estate and high-net-worth practice areas. He is recognized as one of California&rsquo;s most respected certified public accountants. Bookstein is a senior partner of the prestigious national CPA firm Armanino LLP. He specializes in financial issues relating to children, divorce and the development of strategies to pass family wealth from one generation to the next.</p><p>Harriet Bookstein is a successful business manager who works with high-profile leaders in the business and entertainment industries. Her clients range from performers to executives.</p><p>The Booksteins have been longtime supporters of Âé¶čAV and the Nazarian College. Over the years, Harvey Bookstein has guest lectured in dozens of classes and mentored hundreds of Âé¶čAV students. Since its grand opening in September 2020, the stadium &#8203;has quickly become an iconic landmark&nbsp;</p><p>Accompanied by Real Estate lecturer, Norman Chung and guided by SoFi Stadium staff, the students explored the inner workings of the facility, including its state-of-the-art audiovisual technology and luxury suites. Students learned about the stadium's&nbsp;sustainable design features and its commitment to environmental responsibility, gaining insights into the intersection of sports and sustainability.</p><p class="elementtoproof">The locker rooms of the Chargers and LA Rams were the highlight of the tour for many of the students who appreciated the&nbsp;opportunity to walk in the footsteps of their favorite athletes and envision themselves as part of the action.</p><p class="elementtoproof">At&nbsp;the end of the tour, many of the students said they&nbsp;left SoFi Stadium with a newfound appreciation for real estate, the world of sports and entertainment and&nbsp;the&nbsp;teamwork required to&nbsp;create&nbsp;such a monumental project.<i><span style="text-decoration: line-through;"><br></span></i></p><p class="elementtoproof">Chung, says these types of tours provide students with first-hand knowledge about real estate and its impact on local and regional communities.&nbsp;"A primary goal of the real estate center and program at Nazarian College is to provide hands-on experience for students," Chung says. "Trips such as the one we took to SoFi Stadium bring real-life experiences to students and can spark interest in real estate appraisal, finance, investment and development, among other real estate careers."</p><p class="elementtoproof"><span>The trip was sponsored by the college's Real Estate Center of which Chung serves as co-director. Nazarian College exemplifies the unique ways that business schools create value and impact for their stakeholders,&rdquo; says Lily Bi, AACSB president and CEO. &ldquo;Through bold leadership and innovation, Nazarian Collegeis contributing to a better world, demonstrating the important role business schools play in our society.&rdquo;</p><p>Chandra Subramaniam, dean of David Nazarian College of Economics and Business, says the college is honored to be recognized by AACSB International for its commitment to deliver more value to college students and employers through its &ldquo;Professional Education Beyond a Degree&rdquo; initiative.</p><p>&ldquo;College degrees train students to think critically, develop intellectually and prepare for lifelong learning,&rdquo; says Subramaniam. &ldquo;We also want to prepare students with the immediate skills they may need to enter the job market. An industry certification allows that to happen.&rdquo;</p><p>The college offers professional certifications and micro-credentials through its Career Education and Professional Development Center or CEPD.</p><p>Bob Sheridan, executive director of CEPD, says this unique combination is not offered by many colleges across the U.S.</p><p>&ldquo;Our program marries skills-based certifications to the academic process,&rdquo; says Sheridan. &ldquo;The value of a degree combined with professional certificates and micro-credentials&mdash;which we offer at no additional cost to our students&mdash;is clear. Valerie received her J.D. from the University of Southern California Gould School of Law and has spent more than 30 years as a litigator in private practice, specializing in business disputes, including breach of contract, unfair competition and copyright infringement.&nbsp;</p><p><b>Âé¶čAV Jeff Goyer</b></p><p>Jeff Goyer is a Construction Coordinator for a multitude of highly acclaimed films and television series.
